Who I am

I’m Gemma. I’m an Empowerment Coach and Facilitator. I hold space to breathe, create, move, talk & be.

I hold gentle, non-judgmental, open space. I can work with you online, in-person (location dependant) as well as with your business. I’m currently based in Heanor, Derbyshire.

I want to empower you to make your own healthy choices. I believe you have everything in your tool belt to thrive.

As a certified MOE Coach with over 100 hours of coaching experience and an individual member of the Association for Coaching (AC) I hold full public & professional insurance. I’m DBS certified too. I’m on the Train the Trainer Pathway with the MOE Foundation also. Recently, I passed my Level 3 in Understanding Mental Health.

I’m holding sober rave sessions with my local community, mindfulness and movement workshops as well as other fun offerings.

Last and by no means least, I’m on a participatory grantmaking community panel with Make/Shift helping fund individuals and unincorporated groups in Amber Valley.

In my previous career I worked in Fundraising in the Not-for-profit sector, specifically Individual Giving, for over a decade.

If helpful to know my journey, I’ll write about it here. This is my experience in my words and it’s important to say this doesn’t accredit or discredit my ability to be a Coach &/or a Facilitator.

Growing up in a working class household in an ex-mining town I experienced abuse, bullying, harassment, prejudice and violence as a young person. I enjoyed academia and was encouraged here. I used overachieving and overconsuming to mask the trauma I carried. I found it challenging to discern healthy relationships and set boundaries.

In early adulthood I developed addictions to alcohol and drugs. I filled every living moment of my day so I didn’t have to deal with my emotions and my past. Eventually this resulted in physical and mental ill-health. I finally realised, I can change this.

I’ve had various therapy along the way including talking therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), person-centred counselling, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and hypnotherapy. I read about trauma, the body and the brain. Mindfulness, real connection, embodiment and authenticity are so important in my life now.

I find environments where I’m empowered, I have freedom and a choice the most inspiring and nurturing. I’m bringing the same environments to others.

When I’m not working I love baking, cooking, dancing, exploring new places, going to see live music, meditating, painting, reading, running, tea and cake with friends, walking in nature, watching Drag Race and Queer Eye, writing poetry and yoga.
